“The sky was the limit”

July 29, 2007 · 1 Comment

One time- I was almost in a movie and a real one at that.

Really, I was….almost. Here’s the story:

One day, on the way back from one of our visits to the science center, I was sitting with my sister on this ferry boat crossing the Chesapeake Bay. It was a really sunny day and we were sitting in the upper level that’s open and free feeling. The wind was blowing through our hair as we sat there licking suckers while my mom was underneath in the lower level with Clara. There was this lady with blonde in a leather jacket who was supposed to be shooting a scene in the back of this ferry by the wheel. There were guys with foil looking things aimed at her to get the light from the sun and a giant camera was rolling too. One of those guys holding the foil thing looked at us and said, “You ready to be in a movie girls?” At this point my little nine year old self got extremely excited. From that moment on, my sister and I tried our best to look like movie stars as we were about to have our first big break.

Who knows, they could have used the shot from when we were sitting there, but I’ll never know because I don’t know what the movie was called or who was in it. So, if you ever see a movie with two little girls eating suckers on the back of a ferry boat and one of them looks like me, it probably is.

I am human

July 19, 2007 · 2 Comments

laughing, shouting, skipping, pondering, writing lists such as this, working, listening to music while singing along at the top of your lungs, hugging, jumping, winking, smiling until your cheeks hurt, yelling, dancing in front of the mirror, calling, visiting others unexpectedly, walking, praying, reading, watching the cars go by, wishing, wondering the purpose of this list, telling stories, playing on a swingset, running after the ice cream man, missing loved ones, sending letters in the mail, conversing, arguing, loving, sharing, making cookies in the wintertime, rolling down, hills, blushing, dreaming, waiting, sitting in the grass, swimming, enjoying the company of others, listening, learning, creating, teaching, sighing, celebrating, feeling the sand between your toes…

This is LIVING!

“Question Mark…?”

July 16, 2007 · No Comments

This may quite possibly be one of my favorite phrases to say in order to add the element of question to a given statement. If you have ever been around me, you might have noticed it uttered by my lips once or twice. Why discuss what is known as the question mark at this moment? Because everyone needs questions in life.

If we never bothered to question, we would not ever really seriously consider something or deeply think about what must be contemplated. Why this? What now? How? What for? Who says?

Question what you’re taught. Question what you’ve known. Question where you’re going and where you’ve been.

Question and question and question again, but then don’t forget to trust because that’s okay too.
